Black and White

Finding the undertone in things

It’s funny how most things around us are designed in such a way that we don’t even see their undertone.

I write an email newsletter to you every week.

You don’t see who sends it, I don’t see who reads it.

I watched a video on Twitter yesterday where someone was stealing something from another person. Everybody in the comments was hating on this person, saying that they should be put to jail and blah blah blah.

Then there was another comment that linked to the full video. Turns out, the person who was stealing from the other person was actually robbed by this person and he was just trying to get his stuff back and run.

Not everything is as it seems!

You see a credit score. The people who introduced this system see a good and obliging citizen who pays his debts on time.

You see Taylor Swift release her studio album and you think she needs your contribution because her other label treated her badly. Boohoo!

You see the war and think in terms of a good side and a bad side. The people who declared this war think about how to gain territorial control of the other side.

Most times what you see and what you hear, you almost form an instant opinion.

This opinion is usually based on what others think too.

This guy bad, this person good, nudity empowers women, and so on.

But most times, you won’t see the undertone of things around you.

Why?

Because it’s bad to think.

It’s bad to ask questions.

Stay distracted.

Keep scrolling Instagram and keep watching this pointless garbage.

No need to focus on yourself.

No need to get better.

Don’t body shame!

Don’t be accountable for anything.

Your truth!

.

Isn’t this what you hear now? From everybody?

Everything feels so fake because everything is fake.

These celebrities talking about mental health like they know what’s really going on with you.

Everybody trying to sell you something.

Everybody asking you to spam the comments with whatever bullshit they think is appropriate that day.

AND YOU LISTEN.

You listen with all your heart.

Because you don’t think anymore.

We’re genuinely living in such times when there are only two groups of people - those who think and those who don’t.

There’s no clash of opinions.

Start questioning the things around you.

Start asking why certain things are the way they are.

Start thinking about why you need a credit score in the first place.

Start thinking about why a 34-year-old woman sings about teenage love and a guy breaking her heart and why is she promoted so heavily.

Start thinking about why the wars around you are really happening.

Go back in history a little.

There’s a trojan horse included in almost everything you see around you.

And when start thinking and learning, you’ll realize that things aren’t really black and white as they make it look!
